Joneal's return to the coil.

Joneal, founder of The Coily Company, wearing long braids

Joneal · Founder, The Coily Company

I grew up on the island of Jamaica, and I love my Caribbean heritage and culture.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Forensic Psychology. I've also always been a serial entrepreneur, since I was old enough to understand the concepts of the world, and I have always enjoyed creating something of my own.

Like so many girls who grew up in the Caribbean, I had my hair chemically treated. Growing up there at that time, there weren't many products available, and YouTube tutorials weren't a big thing then. Chemically processing your hair just seemed like what most people did, and it seemed "easier". I grew to regret it. I did a big chop, and I decided to appreciate my hair without adding harmful chemicals to my head.

When I started this company, I was making handmade shampoos, conditioners, and oils out of my kitchen and selling them at local markets. Customers loved it, but I couldn't help feeling like something was missing. I went back to the drawing board, on a path to discover what was missing from my brand.

What was missing was the fuel that has powered my natural resilience, determination, and passion. The heart of who I am. I am Jamaican.

The Coily Company is a love letter to Jamaica and the Caribbean, in its quality, its sustainability, its ingredients, and the naturalness of its clean ingredients. I hope to create a catalog of products that 10-year-old Joneal would be proud of.

"Manageable by nature."
